The sector’s growth is further fuelled by the advent of innovative tools & technologies, which are simplifying the processes, thereby reducing the time and cost of execution of construction projects and preventing accidents. After all, constructing complex projects is based on the competency of a civil engineering firm in simplifying it to its fundamentals. ‘Simplify. Create’ – being the strategy followed in all of its operations, Tata Projects leverages the engineering capability and domain expertise it has garnered over the past four decades to simplify complex projects and build optimum solutions as per its customer’s needs.
“We strive to simplify the lives of our customers is the essence of everything we do. As part of this strategy, we leverage technology, advanced construction methods and collaboration between diverse specialists to ensure on-time execution of projects. Working with integrity, we ensure that all our solutions are infused with the highest standards of quality and safety,” asserts Vinayak K Deshpande, Managing Director, Tata Projects. The company provides turnkey solutions for the construction of roads, bridges, fully integrated rail & metro systems, commercial building & airports and setting-up power generation plants, power transmission & distribution systems, chemical process plants, water & waste management and complete mining & metal purification systems.
Overarching Services
Tata Projects operates through four Strategic Business Groups (SBG), namely Industrial Systems, Core Infrastructure, Urban Infrastructure and Services. While the first three SBGs are directly involved in construction-related practices, the Services SBG is concerned with quality certification and inspection services. Tata Projects’ Industrial Systems SBG provides customised turnkey solutions for segments like Power & Metals, Oil & Gas, and Construction & Environment. While its Core Infrastructure SBG renders on-time construction solutions for segments like Transmission & Distribution and Transportation (Railway Infrastructure, Railway Systems and Roads), the company’s Urban Infrastructure SBG offers turnkey solutions for segments like Heavy Civil Infra (Metro & Tunnels, Hydropower & Waterways and Roads, Bridges & Ports) and Urban Built Form (Buildings, Airports & Station Modernization and Smart Cities).
Last but not the least, Tata Projects’ Services SBG operates across the globe and delivers comprehensive inspection, certification, repair & maintenance, and training services. It also caters to Industrial and Infrastructure sectors encompassing Power, Hydrocarbons, Metals & Minerals, Roads, Ports and Buildings. “Safety and quality are the most important pillars of any construction activity. As one of the fastest growing and most admired infrastructure companies in India, we lay utmost importance upon safety and quality,” avows Vinayak.
The company also vests immense emphasis on keeping its customer relationships intact through continuous monitoring of projects and consultations with clients to ensure on-time execution of projects without any hurdles. “We resonate with the ethos of the Tata Group. Tata Projects leads with integrity and has established uncompromising standards of safety and sustainability. It will
always stand by its commitment to customers and strive to deliver projects on time,” adjoins Vinayak.
Harnessing Cutting-Edge Technologies
The company strongly believes that cutting-edge technologies and latest methodologies must be utilized to successfully execute projects on time. As evidence, look no further than the 3D BIM cloud platform Tata Projects has implemented at Tech Mahindra’s Commercial IT park project covering 3.5 lakh sq. ft. in Noida. These full coordinated 3D models of Structural Architectural & MEP, and detail break-down of project schedule to collect daily progress data eliminated usage of paper drawings at sites. Yet another technological first-of-its-kind Tata Projects has commenced is drone-based monitoring and reporting at MP Birla Cement Plant at Mukutban, Nagpur. This isn’t merely photograph and video, but more about digital analysis to highlight progress and compare it on monthly basis.
“It is our belief that innovations and integrations are essential for successful operations, especially in a technology intensive industry such as construction and infrastructure. We are therefore continuously and consistently embracing new technologies,” affirms Vinayak. Hence, Tata Projects in the last 18 months has received few important projects such as 2x700 MW power plant order from NPCIL, construction of 371-room Ginger Hotel in Santa Cruz (Mumbai), construction of IT Buildings in Pune from Tata Consultancy Services, multiple oil & gas sector orders from HPCL Rajasthan Refinery (HRRL) and one from Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), multiple packages of Mumbai Metro Rail & Pune Metro Rail, and many others.
New Heights to Scale
Tata Projects has built a team of over 5000 people – both direct and indirect, who have been carefully chosen for their knowledge, capabilities, attitude and value system. Every member of the team undergoes training periodically to ensure that they understand the latest in technology and world-class construction practices. They are empowered and encouraged to be innovate keeping the customer in mind. It is this well-trained and motivated team that enables Tata Projects to give its best performance in the industry, which has in turn led to a phenomenal growth in turnover, especially in the past few years (from Rs.3,444 crore in FY15 to Rs.13,230 crore in FY 19). In fact, the company’s current order book stands at about Rs.50,000 crore, owing to its carefully devised right growth and expansion strategies.
“We always strive towards ‘Accelerating India’s Progress’,” concludes Vinayak. Already recognized as one of India’s top-most construction and infrastructure companies, Tata Projects aims to be recognized amongst the top-50 construction and engineering companies worldwide. Looking ahead, Tata Projects is driven to deliver projects on time using world-class management techniques with uncompromising standards of safety and sustainability.
